Liturgical Texts for the Summer
For the Sundays July 11 through August 15, the Eucharist prayer of consecration will be taken from a supplemental text approved by the Standing Liturgical commission to the Church through the General Convention of 1977 entitled: Enriching Our Worship. This text is not intended to supplant the Book of Common Prayer, but rather to provide additional resources to assist worshiping communities in expanding the language, images and metaphors used in worship. As a Cathedral parish, it is our responsibility to be aware and responsive to the administrative, liturgical and pastoral changes in the Episcopal Church. We are to be a model for the entire diocese as to how these changes might be used to supplement our community life. To hear the prayers once does not give us enough time to live with the theology, meter and meaning of the prayer, but, to hear them over a six week period allows our ears and spirit a period of time in which to begin to pray the prayer. As we use the texts over these dates I ask you to be open to how the prayer leads us into a different experience of the Eucharist and its meaning in our life. We will return to the Book of Common Prayer texts on August 22.
The next opportunity for the sacrament of Holy Baptism will be Sunday, September 5 at the 10:00am service.
